A new venue is opening in one of Cardiff’s shopping arcades and it’s full of gaming consoles spanning the last 50 years.
And
the space, which is set over three levels in High Street Arcade, has
two floors for gaming and a final floor which will be used as a
co-working space where developers can create their own games.
The Arcade Vaults, which is due to open on Friday, November 23 is the first venue of it’s kind in Cardiff.
Along with the games, the space will also have a fully licenced bar and cafe.
The man behind the Arcade Vaults, 40-year-old Chris Munasinha, explains how he wants to build a community around the site.
“It’s going to be a community for the players and creators of video games,” said Chris.
What to expect?
The Arcade Vaults, which is a
not-for-profit, has a collection of games and consoles that has taken
around three years to build up through donations, internet shopping and
auctions.
Previously working as a pop up, after two years Chris decided to find a permanent venue.
“After
two years of running events, I’ve realised there’s a unique opportunity
to bring together different aspects of the videogame community under
one roof,” said Chris.
Inside the site, you’ll find all sorts of game consoles, stretching back over the last 50 years.
With more than 30 consoles, there’s everything from Commodores and pong, right through to PS4s and VR (virtual reality).
There’s even a shooting gallery, with the classic game Duck Hunt.
Chris said: “We go back across five decades - our oldest is Pong which dates back to 1979.
"Then we have an Atari 2600, which is the first Artari ever released.
He
said:"We go through every decade - we’ve got stuff from the 80s and
then later stuff like the PS One and Gamecube,” adding: “We do have more
recent stuff like a Play Station 4 and we have a VR set up.”
There’ll also be info cards about the consoles in both Welsh and English.
